Some tips on how to apply for PCSO medical assistance
1. Inquire or ask questions directly to PCSO at the Lung Center Compound, Quezon Avenue, Q.C, PCSO Shaw Blvd. Mandaluyong, or at any Hospital's PCSO help desk .
2. When you know the requirements which is oftentimes medical records etc. make sure that you are submitting complete and valid documents to avoid going back and forth. You may submit all the requirements early morning ,cut-off is usually around 10 am or even earlier.
3. Make a simple letter asking for assistance address to Pcso General Manager. Indicate the name of the patient, address, contact number, sickness and specify what assistance you need ex. medical assistance for chemotherapy drugs. The letter should be signed by the patient requesting for help.
4. The patient should prepare another letter authorizing his/her nearest relative to file and process the PCSO application if the patient cannot come to PCSO. The Letter should be signed by the patient and the authorized representative.
5. Check if the medical abstract and other medical records like prescription / reseta have the physician's signature, license number. If asking for medicines, remind your doctor to indicate the generic names, quantity, dosage of medicines.
6.Remember the name or the number of the barangay where the patient resides or registered . And also the job and monthly income of the patient (If the patient is working). They ask these questions during the interview.
7.Photocopy/xerox the valid I.D's of the patient and relative who will help in processing. Bring also original I.D of both persons.
8. Make 3 Photocopies/xerox of all requirements - documents, medical records etc.. Keep a copy of all documents for your file. Pcso may require mostly true copy of medical records and requirements. Come early in the morning to Pcso, follow rules and regulations, ask their staff when in doubt.
9. Bring along with you patience and love as you do the filing of the application for medical assistance at Pcso. You will need that as you wait for long hours, at times it takes the whole day and more days to process.
10. Eat food, drink water, meditate, read a book, use your cellphone, pamaypay to make long hours of waiting productive and calming while waiting for the patient's name to be called. Share your food if you have extra or be genuinely kind to others. There are kindhearted people there.
11.While waiting you would hear other people's story. There are many inspirational stories of love, hope, God's provisions and healing there. Learn from it but be careful not to feel depressed., gain insight from it. Pray when you are feeling depressed . Let go of negative feelings like embarrassment, self-pity instead think that you are doing a loving task of helping yourself or someone else.
12. Sometimes few people there might get impatient, good if it's not you. Keep calm and make sure you do not absorb any negative behavior. Do inhale, exhale breathing exercise and drink water to keep you cool while waiting.
13 Be truthful and humble when being interviewed by social worker. Listen attentively, then answer their questions. If there is a need, tell them politely the condition of the patient if treatment/ medicines will be delayed. Explain that the patient needs the treatment/medicines as scheduled .If you have questions just ask them. Remember to say thank you at the end of the interview.
14. Lastly, take a rest and find comfort in God. You have done a great job helping yourself or someone needing help.

ReplyDeleteThanks for this blog. Add lang din po ako from experience in requesting for assistance from pcso. Enlisting starts before dawn (bago pumasok gate pcso). They let patients/relatives in around 4:30-5am. Processing starts 6am. Make sure to bring complete docs dhil papabalikin talaga pag kulang. You may bring a small pilloe, jacket and foldable chair-lalo kung late kayo darating. Medyo it's a long wait lalo for new applicants and meds request pero worth it. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you not only for the tips but for the words of encouragement as well. :) It really helps.
